ABOUT THE DISCIPLINE
What is Contemporary Young 1?
Contemporary Young 1 is a contemporary dance program adapted for children aged 10 to 12 who want to explore a freer, more sensitive, and conscious relationship with movement.
Through working with weight, displacement, floor work, coordination, mobility, and expression, the class supports the body’s development and the construction of a more receptive and personal movement language.
It’s a practice where technique and creativity coexist. It’s not just about learning steps, but about better understanding the body, expanding possibilities, and developing a deeper presence within movement.
IN MOTION
A space to grow with more freedom and depth
At this stage, between 10 and 12 years old, this practice can be especially valuable because it supports physical and artistic growth through a more conscious and expressive relationship with movement.
What happens in a contemporary dance class
In class, they work on contemporary technique, mobility, weight, supports, displacements, floor work, and expression, always from a guided, sensitive, and progressive experience.
01
Weight and Supports
They learn to recognize how the body supports itself, falls, propels itself, and organizes itself in movement.
02
Floor Work and Displacement
They explore entries to the floor, pathways, directions, and ways to move with greater range.
03
Mobility
They work on a more available, open, and prepared body to respond to different proposals.
04
Quality of Movement
They discover nuances, dynamics, fluidity, and different ways to transform the same action.
05
Expression
They develop a way of moving with more intention, sensitivity, and personality.
A class to listen to the body and discover new ways of moving
Contemporary Young 1 is ideal for children who enjoy exploring, creating, and moving in a less rigid way. A class where they can gain resources, confidence, and expression while learning to inhabit movement with more awareness.
METHODOLOGY
What a contemporary class is like
Technique, exploration, and awareness with close guidance
Contemporary Young 1 classes are built on a clear structure, yet open to exploration. Each session combines activation, technical work, floor work proposals, displacements, creative dynamics, and small movement sequences.
Learning is approached through experience: observing, trying, repeating, transforming, and sharing. Technique is adapted to their age, ensuring that each student can gain confidence without losing curiosity, sensitivity, or enjoyment.
01
Activation
We prepare the body, attention, and energy to enter into movement.
02
Exploration
They try supports, weight, floor work, directions, and different physical qualities.
03
Sequence
They integrate what they’ve worked on into small movement phrases to gain memory and fluidity.
04
Creation
They transform instructions and images into their own expressive and shared movement.
