Mission, Vision, and Values
Awareness of the educational value of dance has spread in recent years. Today, many sectors of our society are calling for access to an educational offer that is approachable, flexible, and engaging, with various forms and goals.
At our center, we hold the discipline and practice of dance in high regard, highlighting its relevance to a person’s holistic development. For this reason, we believe it is essential to continue working together toward high-quality initial and ongoing training for dance professionals in schools. This profile requires disciplinary, intradisciplinary, and interdisciplinary training to meet the needs of a dance professional in a school setting.
MISSION
ASB Dance School is an educational center offering a range of programs from introductory levels to expert practice. Our goal is to inspire through the learning, practice, and experience of dance.
The School aims to bring dance learning closer through different techniques and disciplines, addressing the needs and learning processes of our students. We offer a solid foundation for dance practice based on two fundamental aspects: physical conditioning in harmony with psychological and emotional conditioning. To achieve these goals, we rely on research as a tool for innovation in the pedagogical field.
Given the social connotations of learning dance, special attention will be paid to coeducation, offering both recreational and educational activities and examples to spread the love and practice of dance without gender differentiation. Furthermore, we are committed to inclusive dance education, following principles of respect for diversity as a fundamental human right. Our goal is to recognize difference as a value and an opportunity for enrichment for the entire community, while contributing to overcoming the mindsets and actions that lead to exclusion.
Pedagogically, we propose meaningful learning through self-experience and body awareness with a balanced dual approach: from the body itself (proprioception) toward communication, and from an external stimulus toward the internalization of movement.
Vision
We want ASB School to be a leading educational center in Barcelona for the training and artistic development of children, teenagers, and the general public, offering high-quality educational proposals adapted to the needs of the moment.
The teaching-learning processes are divided into several stages and levels established based on the age and maturity of the students. Even so, given the nature of the subject, the teaching team will determine the most appropriate level for each student, respecting their individual pace and learning needs at all times, understanding that the body is naturally versatile and flexible, and therefore all processes related to its learning will be as well.
VALUES
Beyond dance as a career path, and beyond training as an instrumental tool for practicing and enjoying dance, we believe that dance is of paramount importance for the holistic development of individuals.
The student as the core of educational activity, attention to diversity, effort, and teamwork.
ASB must engage with all educational, cultural, and artistic agents in the city.
The school must be open to everyone, and no one should be excluded for economic, social, or cultural reasons, among others.
We understand education as a global and coordinated action that, to be as beneficial as possible, necessarily involves teachers, families, students, and, ultimately, society itself.
We believe that educational entities must be governed by solid democratic values and must guarantee the participation of all school sectors and shared responsibility in decision-making.
We see dance as a tool for expression and personal and artistic development, and/or as an activity for social connection and communication that is accessible to everyone.
We understand the practice of dance as a means of expression.
We believe that all artistic expressions have a place in a dance school.
We see the school as an educational and cultural agent at the service of the city of Barcelona. In addition to its own school activities, it must contribute to energizing the socio-cultural environment and creating collaboration networks with similar entities.
